Midnight Kids Release Debut As Free Download
Midnight Kids will make their debut 6 song EP, Basement Dreams, available for free as a digital download through March 15, 2010. Based in Washington, DC, Midnight Kids is the brainchild of the former rock band, Apes. That dark, ear-crushing, baritone-and-keyboard-based band toured the world from 1999 to 2008 with the likes of The Mars Volta, Liars, Les Savy Fav, and countless other bands that went on to fruitful careers. The Apes went back to the basement.
Founding Apes members Erick Jackson (guitar), Amanda Kleinman (synths), and Jeff Schmid (drums) grew up together in that creepy and dirty -- yet technologically advanced -- basement. And then they met Kalani, a surfer and lover of soul, dub, and Donovan.
When talk turned to finding a singer, Kalani suggested the foursome recruit LouLou Ghelichkhani, one of the vocalists in the Thievery entourage. Having survived an exile from revolutionary Iran to Paris in the 1980s, they knew LouLou could handle the rigors of the basement. In 2009, the band was solidified and they began the search for the sound.
